The storm came through on a Wednesday night
To lick my city clean
I was woken by flashes of light
And a thunder deafening
I lay awake to hear the rain as it pounded on the roof
I heard you
A light shone underneath the door
From the den across the hall
I stood silent on carpeted floor
And pressed my ear against the wall
I heard the strains of a theme song playing from the 1970’s
I didn’t know you were lonely
I didn’t know you were sad
All the things nobody told me
I found out at four AM
Stretching, pulling upwards before my time
Questions without answers and I
The storm came through on a Wednesday night
To lick my city clean
I stayed up with the TV’s dull light
To keep you company
And no one knows cause you don’t show it
But at twelve years old I see
You’re lonely, and you’re sad
And no one would have told me
If it weren’t for four AM
It’s a sad and bitter story
That I found out at four AM
